Baffled by the coffee machine

Grandpa turned on the coffee machine, which would be fine and dandy if the coffeepot was there. Might not sound too crazy, but you clean up 12 cups of coffee from the floor and counter and then tell me that my grandpa isn’t insane. The other day he turned the coffee machine on, without it being ready to make coffee. (Meaning there was no water in it, no beans, nothing.) The pot burn to the burner of the machine, and now it’s all crispy. Yum.
