Desservo #9: The Fall of a Hero

In this sorrowful week of the new year, an American Legend passed into greatness and entered eternal sleep forever. An icon of Americana left this world Tuesday and is on his way to the next. He will never be forgotten.

Children across the nation looked up to him as a Father. Women wanted him, and men wanted to be him. He was respected by clergymen of every religion, and even mimes stopped to chat with him when he was spotted walking through a quiet park.

Some men are great; some even land a chapter in a history book, but this man….this great one, did more than receive mention in a book, or leave us with fond memories (which he also most certainly did), he left his imprint upon the very heart and soul of America. He WAS America.

And so it is, on Tuesday, January the 8th, 2002, we mourn the passing of a hero…not only to America but also to the universe. Dave Thomas of Wendy’s, you will be sorely missed. At age 69 you died of liver cancer, and the world lost a son forever – and I lost a best friend. But all is not lost. His spirit will live on in his cholesterol-filled beef patties and disgusting chocolate milk shakes. Yes, our friend and guide Dave Thomas lost his fight against his evil arch-nemesis, Wendy, but we will carry on…and we will not go quietly into the night.

We will not forget you.

Good night, sweet King.

Love forever more,

Desservo,

Your friend in time.
